Rhine boatmen

Persons concerned

Employees employed as sailing personnel on board a vessel used commercially for Rhine navigation and holding a certificate provided for in Article 22 of the revised convention for the navigation of the Rhine. 

How to proceed

When starting work, the employer must apply to the CCSS for an "A1 certificate for Rhine boatmen" by submitting:

•  an electronic declaration via SECUline (DEMDET procedure)
  

or

• the form (on paper) "Request for A1 certificate for Rhine boatmen (Pdf, 370 Kb)".

If the conditions for the application of Luxembourg legislation are met, the CCSS will issue the A1 certificate, the validity of which will be limited to the duration of the operator's certificate and Rhine navigation certificate of the vessel on which the employee is employed as a Rhine boatman (the most recent end date of the two supporting documents will be taken into account). These supporting documents must be attached to each application for an A1 certificate for Rhine boatmen.
