General information on affiliation

In case of voluntary, school or university internships

A distinction must be made between:

In absence of compulsory insurance for adult students

If an adult student is not covered by a compulsory health insurance recognised in Luxembourg or as a family member, the educational establishment where the student is enrolled must affiliate the student with the CCSS. The establishments concerned are:

  • secondary schools;
  • accredited higher education establishments (University of Luxembourg or others);
  • research centres.

In case of work during school holidays

Pupils and students aged between 15 and 27 who work during the school holidays must be affiliated with the Social Security Centre (Centre commun de la sécurité sociale - CCSS). They are insured against the risk of work accidents and occupational illnesses. The affiliation cannot exceed a total of 2 months or 346 hours per calendar year. The employer handles the necessary formalities.

For students who do not have a social security number (identification number, 13-digit number), the employer must provide a copy of an identity document for the student with the application for affiliation form.
