Features specific to the public sector
For public sector employees who are reimbursed by the Employers' Mutual Insurance (Mutualité des employeurs - MDE) in the event of illness and who are entitled to cash benefits from the National Health Fund (Caisse nationale de santé - CNS), the public sector employer must declare their employees' periods of incapacity for work to the Social Security Centre (Centre commun de la sécurité sociale - CCSS) along with the exact number of hours of work paid.
More information can be found in the private sector section 'Declaring an incapacity for work'.
This declaration of incapacity for work does not apply to employees who benefit from continued wage payment without time limitation (civil servants, state employees and workers, municipal employees and workers, CFL agents of the Luxembourg National Railway (Chemins de fer luxembourgeois - CFL) etc.).
