Ending voluntary health insurance
Voluntary health insurance (continued or optional) may be ended by the person concerned or, in some cases, automatically by the Social Security Centre (Centre commun de la sécurité sociale - CCSS).
Persons concerned
Anyone who is affiliated with voluntary health insurance (continued or optional).
How to proceed
Ending voluntary health insurance
In certain cases, the insured must ask to terminate their voluntary health insurance, such as for example:
- if they wish to stop paying contributions;
- if they are affiliated with another health insurance scheme abroad;
- if they have a pension abroad that covers health insurance;
- if they are co-insured abroad.
To terminate voluntary health insurance, the insured must send a termination form (Pdf, 97 Kb) to the CCSS.
Automatic termination of voluntary health insurance
Voluntary health insurance is terminated automatically if the contributions are no longer being paid.
If the contributions are not paid for 2 months in a row, the insurance is terminated automatically. The insured is informed by letter.
Readmission to voluntary insurance is possible in the 3 weeks following the disaffiliation letter, as long as the outstanding amounts in question are paid and a new application for admission is made.
In the event of affiliation by other means, the voluntary health insurance will remain in force, but the calculation of the contributions will stop.
