Ending voluntary pension insurance
Voluntary pension insurance (continuous, complementary or optional) ends either at the request of the person concerned or in the event of non-payment of contributions.
Persons concerned
Anyone who is affiliated with the voluntary pension insurance scheme of the Social Security Centre (Centre commun de la sécurité sociale - CCSS).
How to proceed
Ending voluntary pension insurance on request
To end their voluntary pension insurance, the insured must send the 'Pension insurance declaration of termination (Pdf, 100 Kb)' form to the CCSS.
The insured may ask to stop paying into the voluntary pension insurance system scheme for a variety of reasons, e.g.
- resumption of a professional activity;
- affiliation with a different pension insurance scheme (including abroad);
- receiving a benefit which covers pension insurance (e.g. unemployment benefit);
- entitlement to an old-age pension;
- wishing to stop paying the contributions.
Useful tips
There is a time delay between the time of disaffiliation to the voluntary insurance and the reception of the last account statement (invoice).
Example:
A person who cancels the voluntary insurance on March 31st will still receive an invoice in April and May (with the contributions for February and March).
Formal demand / Termination of the voluntary pension insurance by the CCSS
In the event of non-payment of the voluntary pension insurance contributions, the CCSS sends the insured a formal demand by registered letter, requesting that they pay the amount due within 3 months.
If the insured has still not paid their debt at the end of these 3 months, the voluntary pension insurance will be terminated as of the last day of the month preceding the month for which the contributions have not been paid in full.
